How It Happened
The Spartans batted around in the first inning and scored eight of their nine runs with two outs. A Kaela Fritz walk kept the inning alive and Bri McKeown made it count as she roped a two-run double to left center as York opened up a 3-0 lead. The extra-base hits kept coming as Taylor Walls smoked a two-run triple, followed later by a two-run double by Morgan Sauers as the lead extended to 8-0. Alyssa Harhigh joined the party with a RBI-double to down the left field line to cap the scoring at nine.

The Spartans racked up seven total hits, including five extra-base hits, in the first inning led by a pair of doubles and three RBI by Sauers.

York went hitless over the next two innings following the first-inning outburst and had posted just two more the rest of the game. The Pride had just one hit in the final four frames which was an infield single in the fourth that led to their only run of the season against the Spartans.

Natalie Rietema tied her season-high with six strikeouts on the day while walking three and hitting three batters in her eighth complete-game outing.

Up Next
The Spartans are slated to travel to Eastern on Saturday for a conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
