#9 Women’s Lacrosse Clinches MACC Postseason Spot in Win Over Albright

YORK, Pa. - The No. 9 York women's lacrosse team rode a 13-goal halftime lead to a 16-6 victory over Albright Wednesday night at home to clinch a MAC Commonwealth postseason spot for the third-straight year.

The Spartans pitched a second-quarter shutout to get to a 14-1 halftime advantage to put the game away early. Teresa Matthias scored a natural hat trick during the first-half onslaught as she and Kiersten Blanchard each scored a trio on the day to lead the offense.

How It Happened
The Lions hung tough through the first eight minutes as the game remained tied, 1-1, but the Spartans ripped off four-straight in a span of two-and-a-half minutes and tacked on three more in the final three minutes of first quarter to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Teresa Matthias helped break the game open with her first-quarter hat trick as six different Spartans scored in the first.

The Spartans won five of seven draws in the second and out-scored Albright, 6-0, in the second quarter to take a commanding 13-goal lead after two periods of play. Bella Garabo blanked the Lions in the second with four saves, including one on a free-position shot, as she faced a total of five shots. Six different Spartans accounted for all six of York's goals in the second as they needed just eight shots.

The York scoring pace slowed as the clock continued to run throughout the second half with the Spartans maintaining their 10-goal edge. Kiersten Blanchard scored early in the fourth quarter for her third of the day and her 31st of the season. Natalie Neiman set Madison Kurland late in the fourth to get her third assist of the day.
