#13 Spartans Clinch Conference Postseason Berth at Albright

READING, Pa. - The No. 14 Spartans men's lacrosse squad shook off an early deficit and rolled to a 26-6 victory at Albright Wednesday night to secure a MAC Commonwealth postseason spot.

The Spartans fought back from a 2-1 deficit three-and-a-half minutes into the game and ripped off 14 unanswered goals with a second-quarter shutout to put the game away. Michael Russo scored three goals and racked up four of his career-high five points during that big Spartan run.

Albright 3-11 (1-4 MACC)

How It Happened
The Spartans found themselves looking up at a 2-1 deficit 3:36 into the game after a failed clear attempt at midfield led to a second Albright goal. York had four times as many turnovers as shots in the first three minutes, but the Green and White did not panic and rallied quickly. The Spartans pumped in six goals in the final eight minutes of the first quarter with Michael Russo scoring twice on that run.

Vinny Facciponti and Hugo Spencer combined to win 16 of 18 faceoffs through the first two quarters as the Spartans opened up a 15-2 halftime lead. The dominant faceoff effort combined with seven Lion turnovers limited Albright to just three total shots as the Spartans pitched a second-quarter shutout.

The York defense caused eight of Albright's 15 combined turnovers in the second and third quarters as the Lions managed to score just once on a combined total of just five shots during that span. The Spartans poured in seven more goals in the third quarter with seven different goal scorers to extend the lead to 22-3.

JD Townsend opened the fourth quarter scoring for York with his career-best fifth goal of the game. Riley Zeer followed Townsend later in the quarter to get his first-career goal.

Up Next
The Spartans return to Kinsley Field on Saturday to take on MAC Commonwealth foe Lebanon Valley.
