Baseball Falls at #6 Randolph-Macon

RMC scored a combined 11 runs in the first two innings to jump on York early

ASHLAND, VA – The York College baseball team dropped a 13-7 non-conference contest at #6 Randolph-Macon on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, Virginia.
The game was sloppy as the teams combined for eight errors in the high-scoring affair.

How It Happened
• The Yellow Jackets jumped on the Spartans early and often. Randolph-Macon exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first. The big blow as a two-run homer off the bat of Ethan Iannuzzi. The Yellow Jackets added two sacrifice flies in the inning. They scored their five runs on just three hits with three walks.
• York got three runs back in the top of the second. Chris Betler plated two with an RBI double to left. After he advanced to third on an error, he scored on a Lucas Prendergast sacrifice fly.
• The Yellow Jackets hit the Spartans with a six run bottom of the second to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Hunter Cole had a three run homer for RMC in the huge inning.
• York got a pair of those runs back on an Andrew Santarpia two run homer in the top of the third.
• Randolph-Macon got a single run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-5. The Spartans scored two runs in the top of the seventh before the Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring with a single run in the eighth.

The Spartans are now 4-13-2 against Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets have won three straight in the series … York has now allowed 27 first inning runs and 27 second inning runs … York is 6-7 on the road this season … the Spartans are 0-6 when allowing ten or more runs in a game … York has made 14 errors in their last six games … the errors have led to 10 unearned runs in those six games … York pitchers struck out just two in the loss … Ryan Kulick threw well out of the pen as he tossed a team-high 3.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits … Sam Gardner also threw well as he twirled two shutout innings as he allowed just two walks in his outing … Andrew Santarpia drilled his third home run of the year … Santarpia is 7-for-9 in his last two games with three runs scored and six RBI … Santarpia is tied for second in RBI on the team despite playing just 20 games this year.

The Spartans return to action on Friday as they kick off a MAC Commonwealth series against Hood. The Spartans will host the Blazers on Friday afternoon in the single game. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm. The doubleheader portion of the series will be played on Saturday in Frederick, Maryland. First pitch for game one is set for 12:00 pm.
