How It Happened
• The Hornets scored first in the bottom of the first. The Spartans got the first two outs of the inning before Avery Neaves drew a walk. After a failed pick off moved Neaves to second, Logan Webster singled to left center to score Neaves for the 1-0 lead.
• In the third, Cameron Lane reached second on a two-base Spartan error. A Neaves single left runners at first and second. Lane moved to third on a Webster fly out to left center. A wild pitch then scored Lane with the Hornets second run of the game.
• The Hornets made it 4-0 in the fifth as Neaves had an RBI single. He would come around to score on a Webster RBI single for the four run lead.
• The Spartan lone run came in the sixth as
Jacob Deimling made his collegiate debut a memorable one. Deimling blasted a home run in his first career at-bat to get the Spartans on the board. The Hornets got an insurance run in the bottom of the frame on a squeeze to provide for the final 5-1 margin of victory.
• The Spartans had chances in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings but double plays in each frame prevented York from doing any damage.
