Women's Tennis Starts Commonwealth Schedule with a Win

The Spartan women earn a 7-2 win over Albright

YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team opened MAC Commonwealth play with a 7-2 home win over Albright College on Friday afternoon in York.
The match was the first for the Spartans in 15 days and starts a stretch of four matches in nine days for the Green and White.

The Spartans improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Lions fall to 6-3 and 0-1 in the league with the loss.

The Spartans took command of the contest early as they swept the three doubles matches. Morrissey Walsh and Bri Serruto combined to post an 8-0 win in the second doubles match. The tandem of Eleanor Beck and Emily Louie earned an 8-1 win in the third doubles match. The first doubles match was closer as Elsa Oestermarker and Brianna Rohrer recorded an 8-4 win in their match.

The Lions earned a pair of wins to kick off singles play as Alex Pancu won the first singles match for Albright while Michelle Timothy won the second singles match to cut York's lead to 3-2.

The Spartans closed out the match by winning the remaining four singles matches. Rohrer bounced Jacqualine Manikas 6-1, 6-0 in the third singles match. Walsh earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Megan Colaneri in the fourth singles contest. Walsh improves to a team-leading 10-1 in singles matches this year including 9-0 in dual matches for the campaign.

Beck recorded a 6-0, 6-2 fifth singles win while Louie closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-1 win in the sixth singles contest.

The Spartans have now won four of their last five matches.

York returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Salisbury University in a non-conference match up at the Myers Tennis Complex.
