Women's Lacrosse has now won three straight

LEXINGTON, VA. – The tenth ranked York College women's lacrosse team earned a huge 12-8 road win at #2 Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Virginia.

The win over the number two Generals marks the second time in school history that the Spartans have knocked off the second ranked team in the country. The Spartans other win over the second ranked team in the country came on April 20, 2018 with a 14-12 win over Gettysburg at Kinsley Field.

The loss is the first for the Generals as they fall to 8-1 while the Spartans improve to 5-2 overall.

How It Happened
• The Generals wasted little time in opening the scoring as Shannon Timoney found the back of the net a mere 41 seconds into the game. Washington and Lee out-shot the Spartans 6-5 in the first quarter.
• The Green and White started the second quarter with a flourish as Kluegel tied the game at two with her second goal of the game 3:25 into the period. Kiersten Blanchard gave York a 3-2 lead with a little more than seven minutes remaining before the half. The Generals tied the game on a Claire Horner goal but the Spartans took the lead heading to the half. Gianna Huet hit a cutting Sydney Mentzer who finished the chance with 1:02 left in the half for York's 4-3 lead. Blanchard struck just seconds before the half to put the Spartans up 5-3 with her second goal of the game.
• York carried the play in the second quarter as they out-shot their hosts 12-3 and forced the Generals into five second quarter turnovers.
• The Spartans got off to a great start in the third quarter as they ripped off three goals in the opening six minutes of the period. Logan Ward sandwiched a pair of goals around a Kurland tally as the York led grew to 8-3. The Generals halted the run with a pair of goals from Jenny Lisovicz and Ginny Taylor just over two minutes apart to cut the York lead to 8-5. York finished the quarter strong as Mentzer and Ward finished off chances to give York a 10-5 edge heading to the fourth.
• The Generals made things interesting in the fourth as they scored two straight, cutting the Spartan advantage to 10-7. Blanchard halted the run with her third goal of the game with 3:59 left. Washington and Lee wasn't going to go down quietly as Timoney converted a free position goal with 3:36 remaining in regulation.
