#14 Spartans Roll to 20-8 Win Over Grove City

YORK, Pa. - The No. 14 York men's lacrosse squad dominated Grove City in a 20-8 triumph Saturday at rainy Kinsley Field.

The Spartans handed the Wolverines to their fourth-straight loss and limited the Grove City offense to their lowest goal total of the season, while York posted their second 20-goal game at home this season. The Green and White blitzed the Wolverines with eight first-quarter goals, led by a Will Harnick hat trick, and the rout was on from there as York held Grove City to just two tallies over the next two-and-a-half quarters.

How It Happened
Both teams came out swinging in the first quarter as they combined for 35 shots, 15 by York, but the Spartans came out on top, 8-2, by quarter's end. Jack Keller, making his first-career start, was instrumental to York's success in the first period as he made four saves, including two in the first two minutes that led directly to Spartan goals on the other end. Will Harnick had the hot hand for York early on with two tallies in the first two minutes as he finished the opening quarter with three. Jackson Shields also had an impact in the transition offense with a goal and assist.

The scoring pace cooled in the second quarter, but York prevailed, 2-1, to take a 10-3 halftime lead. The Wolverines had chances to gain some traction in the second as they won both the turnover and ground ball battles, in addition to having a pair of man-up opportunities. The Spartans killed off 1:30 in penalties and snuffed out any chance of Grove City waging a comeback before half.

York put the game away in the third quarter with five unanswered goals by five different Spartans to extend a 6-0 run from the first half. The Spartans generated 20 shots to just two by Grove City, while dominating the ground ball battle 15-7. York swarmed the Wolverines who turned the ball over a game-high nine times in the third with the Spartans causing five.

Four different Spartans found the back of the net on a 4-0 run to put York ahead, 19-4, with 9:28 left. The Wolverines hung four goals on the board in the final 6:35 to walk away with a little momentum in a one-sided affair.

Up Next
The Spartans return to play Wednesday night at home in their conference-opener against Hood at 7 p.m.
