How It Happened
• After a quiet first two and a half innings, the Golden Wolves drew first blood. With runners at first and third with one out, a Spartan error allowed the first Alvernia run to score. The Golden Wolves then got a two-run triple from Zach Rogacki to right field to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. Jason Kelly and Brandon Smith each had RBI singles in the inning as the Golden Wolves finished the frame with a 5-0 lead.
• Kelly tacked on a solo home run to left field in the fifth, pushing the lead to 6-0.
• That would be more than enough for Alvernia starter Evan Wood as the freshman right-hander held the Spartans to no runs on three singles with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of action.
• The Spartans had very few chances in the game. York got two runners on in the second with one out but a strikeout and ground out short circuited the threat. York got two more runners on in the fifth but a pick off and a line out ended that uprising.
• Sophomore
Michael Tinneny broke up the shutout in the ninth as he blasted a solo homer to left to get York on the board.
