Jason Kelly then homered to left, scoring Cameron Abele for the 3-0 Alvernia lead.
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as Gabe Trevena hammered a solo home run to right with one out in the bottom of the frame. Later in the inning, Brendan Martin ripped a two-out, two-run double to right center, tying the game at three.
• Alvernia came right back and got a two-run shot from Connor Friedel to retake the lead, 5-3. The Spartans went quietly in the second but York got three runs in the third with some help from the Alvernia staff. Chris Betler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Lucas Prendergast was plunked three pitches later to plate a pair of runs for York. Brian Jakubek gave York a 6-5 lead with a sacrifice fly to center.
• The Spartan offense exploded for five runs in the fifth started by a Betler blast to deep left with two outs as the York lead grew to 7-5. Prendergast was then hit by another pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jakubek singled off the pitcher to put runners at the corners. Robby Elzinga doubled to right, scoring Prendergast and moving Jakubek to third. Trevena followed with a triple to right as the York lead grew to 10-5. Trevena scored on a Michael Tinneny single as the Spartan lead settled at 11-5.
• Alvernia trimmed the Spartan lead by two as they plated a pair of runs in the sixth on four hits. However, Spartan reliever AJ Vincenzi got out of the jam and pitched a perfect seventh for the three-inning save.
