How It Happened
• The game began with a bang as Lion lead-off hitter Dallas Hite blasted the first pitch of the game deep over the wall in left center for the 1-0 lead. The Lions then got a single from Brendan Henn. Henn stole second and scored on Kevin Lehner's RBI single to left as the first three Lions of the game recorded hits. Spartan start
Dawson Rightenour settled in and got out of the inning without any further damage.
• The Spartans' answered emphatically in the bottom of the first.
Robby Elzinga tripled to right center and scored when the relay throw was wild, getting the Spartans on the board.
Gabe Trevena and
Andrew Santarpia each singled to put Spartans at the corners.
Jacob Deimling singled to right to score Trevena, tying the score at two.
Brendan Martin surprised the Lions with a bunt single down the third base line, loading the bases with one out.
Connor Pickle drew a bases loaded walk and then
Garrett Kile plated a run with an RBI fielder's choice. The Spartans got their final run of the inning when Martin and Kile pulled off a double steal.
• The Lions got a run back in the second on a Henn sacrifice fly. However, the Spartans answered with a two-out, two-run double from Deimling, pushing the lead to 7-3.
• After the second, the two offenses went quiet until the top of the sixth inning. The Lions got to a tiring Rightenour as Maddux Ryan singled to right. Josh Lantz and Drew Bechtold drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs.
Ryan Kulick relieved Rightenour and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Carlos Irizarry. A passed ball moved the two runners up 90 feet and they cruised home on a Lucas Floyd two-run double to right center. The Lions tied the game two batters later as Henn had a sacrifice fly.
• The Spartans got a lead-off double from
Michael Tinneny in the bottom of the sixth. Deimling walked with one out but York couldn't push across the go-ahead run. The Lions seized the lead in the seventh. Drew Bechtold drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI fielder's choice. Irizarry then notched his second sacrifice fly of the day to put the Lions up 9-7.
• Harrisburg picked up an insurance run in the eighth, pushing the Lion lead to 10-7. The Spartans got two runners on in the bottom of the eighth but hit into some bad luck as pinch hitter
Lucas Prendergast hit an absolute rocket right at the shortstop to end the threat.
• York got a pair of runners on again in the ninth but a fielder's choice and a fly out ended the game for the Green and White.
