#10 Men’s Lacrosse Stumbles at #6 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 10 York men's lacrosse team fell, 14-10, in a top-10 showdown at No. 6 Salisbury on Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium.

York struggled to gain traction as the Sea Gulls out-scored the Spartans 8-2 in the first and third quarters, including a 6-1 run to open the game, which forced York to battle from behind all day.

How It Happened
The Sea Gulls pumped in a pair of goals 38 seconds apart within the first three minutes of the game and parlayed that momentum into a 5-1 first quarter lead. York's six turnovers in the first quarter led to a lop-sided 15-3 shot margin in favor of Salisbury as the host Gulls stifled the Spartan offense.

The Spartans regained their footing in the second quarter, cutting the turnovers down to just two and matched Salisbury in goals with three each, as they trailed the Gulls, 8-4, at halftime. Will Harnick provided a lift as he capitalized on a man-up opportunity with 8:02 left in the period and Jack Grayson cashed in 97 seconds later to give the Spartans their first back-to-back goals of the game. Salisbury held York scoreless on the next three possessions, while scoring twice more, but York did not go away quietly as Ryan Kazzella scored with 59 seconds left before half.

The momentum York built up in the second quarter shifted back to Salisbury's favor in the third. The Spartans turned the ball over seven times in the quarter, including four unforced, which made the difference in a rather even period. The Spartans showed promise early as they capitalized on a Salisbury turnover with a Harnick goal just over a minute into the quarter. The Sea Gulls pitched a shutout the rest of the way, out-scoring York 3-1 in the quarter, to take an 11-5 lead after 45 minutes of play.

York finished the game strong with five fourth-quarter tallies. Vinny Facciponti also looked sharp at the faceoff dot to close out the game as he won eight of nine in the period and scooped up six of his game-high 11 ground balls in the fourth.

Up Next
The Spartans make their annual appearance at the Mustang Classic next weekend. They open up against No. 16 Franklin & Marshall on Friday, followed by a matchup with No. 13 Amherst on Saturday.
