How It Happened
• The Spartans struck first in the bottom of the opening inning as
Brendan Martin singled to left to score
Michael Tinneny for the 1-0 Spartan lead. Manchester tied the game in the top of the second with an Austin Knowles single up the middle.
• Manchester took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Harrison Pittsford home run to right center.
• York had a big, four-run fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Gabe Trevena blasted his first career homer to right center, a two-run shot that scored
Robby Elzinga. Later in the inning,
Bryce Shaffer had a two-run single for the Green and White.
• Manchester trimmed York's lead to 5-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to a Cole Filson two-run single. The visitors took the lead in the seventh courtesy of a pair of two-run singles.
• With the Manchester Spartans leading 7-5, they exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 12-7 lead. The York Spartans responded with a five spot of their own as Elzinga opened the scoring with an RBI double while Martin capped the scoring with a two-run shot over the wall in left center.
• York got a lead-off single from freshman
Luke Moser in the ninth but he would only make it to second in the inning as the Spartans would not be able to push the equalizer across the plate.
