WAYNESBORO, PA – The York College men's golf squad stands eighth at the 2023 Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Saturday afternoon at the par-72 Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, PA.
The Spartans fired a team score of 301, as they sit eighth in the 17-team field. Roanoke, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, and Stevenson are all tied for the lead with a nine-over par 297. Rose-Holman is fifth with a score of 298.
Junior
Matthew Salter led the way for the Spartans as he shot an even-par 72 for his opening round. He was two under on the front with 34 and was two-over on the back with a 38. Salter had five birdies on his round.
Jason Velez and
Nate Myers were the next two scorers for York as they both shot a four-over-par 76 for their rounds. Velez was one-over on the front with a 37 and three-over on the back with a 39. Myers, making his 2023 debut, was three-over on the front and the had a one-over 37 on the back.
Jacob Fripp was the Spartans' fourth scorer on Saturday as the shot a five-over-par 77. Fripp carded a five-over 41 on the front but recovered nicely with a back-nine even par 36.
Bennett Elgin was York's fifth tournament player and he shot an 83 to round out the York lineup.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday morning for day two of the tournament. The Spartans will tee off starting at 8:20 am at the Waynesboro Country Club.
