FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The York men's soccer squad dropped their second-straight bout with a nationally ranked opponent with a 6-0 decision at No. 2 Mary Washington on Wednesday night.

Team Records
York 2-4-3
#2 Mary Washington 9-1

How It Happened
  • The Spartans pressured early and could not capitalize which then opened the door for the Eagles. UMW took full advantage and hung two goals on the board in the 23rd and 25th minutes to suddenly shift the momentum in their favor.
  • York showed some late life to end the half as a Johnny Wagner header found its way on target in the 45th minute, but Eagle keeper Freddie Rogers was there to make the stop.
  • UMW owned a 12-3 shot advantage at the end of one half of play and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Spartans got a shot in the arm to start the second half when keeper Jake Bono stopped a penalty kick by Gabe Francesconi in the 47th minute. The Eagles quickly rebounded two minutes later when Carter Berg knocked home the first of his two tallies on the night as UMW took a 3-0 lead.
  • York generated opportunities throughout the second half, but struggled to get quality scoring chances as Eagles continued to pull away. UMW put two more goals on the board in the 69th and 84th minutes on their way to matching their highest goal total of the season.
