UNION, N.J. - The Spartan volleyball team split a pair of matches with Drew and Kean in their final tri-match of the season hosted by Kean University on Saturday.

Match One
York 3, Drew 1
Team Records
Drew 7-16
York 16-9

How It Happened
  • The Spartans edged out a 25-23 victory in set one in a back-and-forth battle with the Rangers that had 12 ties and four lead changes. Morgan Nolte notched a pair of crucial kills late which gave York a 23-21 lead and then the clinching point at 25-23.
  • York took the lead early and pulled away to a 25-19 win in the second set. Gianna Krinock racked up five kills on a key 6-0 run which shifted the momentum into York's favor the rest of the way. She would go on to finish the set with seven kills.
  • The Rangers avoided a sweep as they squeaked out a win in the third set, 25-23. York trailed by as much as seven before battling back to tie the set at 16-16. The two teams traded points until Drew broke open a three-point edge late and held on to win.
  • Drew fell into a hitting slump in the fourth set as York went on to win the set, 25-17, and clinch the match. The Spartans found themselves in a close battle early before opening up a six-point advantage and taking the lead for good on a 7-2 run midway through the frame fueled by a pair of Krinock kills.

Match Two
Kean 3, York 1
Team Records
York 16-10
Kean 17-10

How It Happened
  • Kean took the lead early and never looked back as the Cougars went on to win the first set, 25-18. Gianna Krinock led York with five kills in the set, but her effort was not enough as the Spartans hit under .100 as a unit in the set.
  • York never trailed in the second set as the Green and white went on to win, 25-20. The Spartans took control of the set with a 10-2 run which stretched a two-point led into a 10-point advantage (19-9) fueled by four Spartan kills and a trio of aces by Jackie Karcz.
  • Both teams hit over .350 in a third-set slug fest ultimately won by the Cougars, 25-21. Trailing 21-16, York made a push at a comeback led by three kills by Krinock, but Kean matched the Spartans with kills of their own to hold off the late York surge.
  • York had no answers for Kean in the decisive fourth set as the Cougars hit .500 as a unit and rolled to a 25-11 victory.
