Spartans Clinch Postseason Berth in Final Home Match

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan volleyball team clinched a MAC Commonwealth postseason berth with a 3-0 victory over Widner on Tuesday in a must-win match to close out their home schedule.

Team Records
Widener 15-9 (2-4 MACC)
York 16-9 (4-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Spartans led the first set wire-to-wire and held off a comeback bid by Widener in a 25-23 victory. York led by as much as seven multiple times throughout the set, but the Pride roared back to cut the deficit to one (22-21 & 24-23) late in the frame. Coming out of a timeout, Megan Holmes notched the set-clinching kill to hold off Widener's surge. Morgan Nolte led York with five kills in the set and Abby Diehl led all players with 12 assists.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth in the second with nine ties and four lead changes before the Spartan pulled away to a 25-17 win. York trailed by one (12-11) before ripping off six unanswered points to take control of the set. Gianna Krinock jump started that run with back-to-back kills and led all players with five in the set. Diehl dished out 12 assists for the second-consecutive set. Alyssa Mott led the Spartans with seven digs to lead a strong defensive effort which held the Pride to a .027 attack percentage in the frame.
  • York put the match away in convincing fashion with a 25-13 victory in the third set while hitting .417 as a unit. Mott notched a trio of service aces on a pivotal five-point run in the middle of the set which extended a three-point Spartan lead into a seven-point advantage. The Spartans slammed the door as they ended the match on a 6-1 run with a pair of kills by Holmes along the way.
