Spartans Keep Rolling with Win at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The Spartan women's soccer team capped their regular season road slate with a 2-1 victory at Hood on Saturday evening.

Meg Kalthof opened the scoring for York in the 19th minute with her fifth goal in three games, followed by the game-winner by Olivia Dingman in the 43rd minute of play.

Team Records
York 11-5-0 (5-0-0 MACC)
Hood 3-10-3 (0-3-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Blazers got on the board first with a Priya Nair tally in the 13th minute which ended Hood's five-game scoreless streak. Nair drove to the endline on the right side of goal, fired a shot towards the goal mouth and caught a break as it deflected off a Spartan defender into the goal.
  • The Spartans returned the favor in the 19th minute when Meg Kalthof tallied her sixth-straight goal for the Spartans. The play started with Dolan leaving her net to make a save on and Ashlynn Weger save just inside the 18-yard line. The play by Dolan left the net wide open as the ball landed directly at the feet of Kalthof who sent it home for her seventh goal of the season.
  • The Spartans remained on the hunt for another goal before halftime and got what they were seeking in the 43rd minute. The play started out wide up the right side where Marissa Brdaric passed to middle. Olivia Dingman received Brdaric's pass and quickly ripped a shot past a diving Dolan 23 yards out for her third tally of the year.
  • York turned up the heat in the second half, but could not unlock a defensive stand by the Blazers. The Spartans racked up 13 shots in the second half and put six of those shots on target as Dolan's save total swelled to 10 for the game.
  • York also put together a strong defensive performance of their own as Hood totaled just three shots on the day with two on target.

Up Next
The Spartans return home for their last two regular season games. York will take on Albright on Wednesday at 7 p.m. followed by a showdown with Messiah on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Notes
The Spartans are now 10-0-0 all-time against Hood … Meg Kalthof scored all six of York's goals beginning with the final goal against Stevenson on Oct. 7 and ending with the first goal of Saturday's win at Hood … York has produced 20-plus shots in each of the last two games … the Spartans have now held opponents to single-digit shot totals six times this season after limiting Hood to just three … the Spartans capped their regular season road schedule with an 8-2 record with the two losses to No. 15 Rochester and No. 21 Misericordia.
