Eastern Snaps Spartans' Home Streak

York entered the night with an eight-game home unbeaten streak stretching back to last season

YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team saw their eight-game home unbeaten streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to Eastern at home Wednesday night.

Eastern's Aidan Link scored the game's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 36th minute. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and goalless streak for the Eagles as they picked up their first MAC Commonwealth win of the year.

Team Records
Eastern 4-6-3 (1-3-0 MACC)
York 4-6-3 (1-3-0 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Both teams came out swinging and generated chances in the early minutes. York put a pair of shots on target in the first four minutes, but were denied both times by Eastern keeper Ty Bleiler. The Eagles gave York a scare in the 13th minute when Osmond Chan stung the bottom of the crossbar on a shot from 28 yards out.
  • The tide turned in the 36th minute when the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick after Zach Sievert was tripped up in the box by Dermot Williamson. Aidan Link took the PK for Eastern and converted for his second goal of the season.
  • Two minutes after Link's PK, the Spartans drew a penalty of their own as Tyler Howlett was fouled in the box. Luke Nall took the kick for York and his attempt was denied by an excellent sprawling save by Bleiler.
  • York finished the half with back-to-back corners in the 41st minute, but failed to generate a shot off either attempt.
  • The Spartans had a few chances sprinkled throughout the second half, but none better than a free kick opportunity with 2:20 left. Brandon Holy served a ball deep into the box from over 30 yards and Bleiler misread the ball which left the goal wide open. The ball ping-ponged around, but never really settled and Eastern managed to harmlessly clear it away to safety to seal the win.

Up Next
The Spartans travel to Hood on Saturday for a conference tilt with the Blazers at 7:30 p.m.

Notes
York falls to 3-3-1 all-time against Eastern … the Spartans suffered their first loss at home in over a year (Oct. 15, 2021) as they produced a record of 5-0-3 during that span and are now 2-1-3 at Graham Field this season ... this was the longest home unbeaten streaks since York went 26-straight games at home without a loss from 2012-14; a streak that was also ended by Eastern.
