FREDERICK, MD – The York College men's soccer squad got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 5-1 win at Hood College on Saturday night in MAC Commonwealth play.
The Spartans snapped a two-game losing skid as they improve to 5-6-3 overall and 2-3 in the league. The Blazers fall to 3-13-1 and 1-3-1 in the conference.
How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in opening the scoring as
Matt Martin found the back of the net off a pass from
Luke Nall to put the Spartans up 1-0 4:41 into the contest. The Green and White made it 2-0 just under seven minutes later as
Matt Zeiders scored his first goal of the year off a helper from
Tyler Howlett. Martin notched his second goal of the night in the 23
rd minute of the game as Howlett found him with a pass that he finished off to put York up 3-0. Hood got on the board in the 26
th minute on a Jackson Quenzer tally.
• The Spartans out-shot the Blazers 10-2 in the first half including 6-1 in shots on goal. The Green and White had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
• The Spartan defense got in the scoring act in the 73
rd minute as defenders
Dylan Marco and
Brandon Holy combined for York's fourth goal. Holy found Marco with a pass that the freshman finished for his first collegiate goal. Senior
Jack Mitzelfelt closed out the scoring in the 76
th minute with his fourth goal of the year with Holy notching his second assist of the evening.
• York finished the game holding a 22-8 advantage in total shots including a 13-2 bulge in shots on goal. The Spartans also held a 7-3 margin in corner kicks.
