BETHPAGE, N.Y. - The Spartan men's golf squad finished second out of eight teams at the George Cangero Invitational on Sunday played on the red course at Bethpage State Park. The tournament was trimmed down to just one round after rainy conditions on Saturday forced play to be suspended before the round could be completed.
The Spartans tied Swarthmore for the overall team lead with a score of 293, but the Garnet won the team title on tiebreaker as their highest individual score (78) beat out York's highest score (81).
Sophomore
Nate Myers junior
Jason Velez paced the Spartans as they finished tied for sixth place with matching scores of 72 (+2). Velez posted bogies on his first two holes, but went on to par the rest of the front nine. The junior also posted bogies on two of the first four holes on the back nine, but made up for it with birdies on 16 and 18 to capture his third top-five performance this season.

Matthew Salter nabbed his fourth top-10 performance of the fall as she shot a 74 (+4) to finish 10th. Salter bookended both his front and back nine rounds with bogies and shot nothing but par in between.
