Spartans Win a Pair in Home Tri-Match

YORK, Pa. - The York volleyball team capped off an undefeated week and improved to 9-0 at home with a pair of wins over Arcadia and Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans pulled away late to earn a 25-17 victory in a set one. Gianna Krinock led all players with five kills in the set and fueled a pivotal 6-1 run with three kills midway through the frame which put York in the lead the rest of the way.
  • York pulled out a 25-23 win in the second set after seven ties and four lead changes. Abby Diehl had a critical kill and service ace late down the stretch which proved to give York just enough of an edge while the Knights ended the set with a hitting error.
  • The Knights overcame an early six-point deficit to win the third set, 25-18. Arcadia ended the set on an 8-0 run with a pair of key blocks late to seal the win.
  • York rebounded in the fourth with a convincing 25-15 win on a .432 attack percentage to clinch the match. Krinock, Jennifer Taylor and Megan Holmes each recorded five kills and all hit .500 or better in the set, while Diehl assisted on 16 of the team's 18 kills.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans and Lions tied six times in the opening set before York went on a 13-0 en route to a 25-11 victory. Gianna Krinock notched four kills on York's set-clinching run and finished with six to lead all players in the set. The Spartans also defended the net well with three total blocks and held the Lions to just one kill.
  • York led the second set wire-to-wire to a 25-9 win. The Spartans scored eight-straight points to end the set with Megan Holmes and Morgan Nolte each scoring three kills on that run.
  • The Spartans never trailed in the third as they clinched the match with a 25-15 third set win. York owned a 17-5 advantage in kills in the third and held the Knights to a .034 attack percentage.

The Spartans travel to Albright on Wednesday for a conference match slated to start at 7 p.m.

Abby Diehl racked up 59 assists on the day and became the fifth player in program history to reach 2,500 career assists; Diehl now has 2,506 for her career which ranks fifth in program history behind Caitlin Mcintosh '04 (4,698), Jeri-Lynn Mondin '98 (4,246), Cortni Rentzel '11 (3,996) and Katie Hertz '07 (3,759) … Gianna Krinock notched her fifth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs against Arcadia … Megan Holmes led the Spartans in kills (20) and kills per set (2.86) on the day … Liz Kerin led the team in both blocks (7) and service aces (6) on the day … Jasmine Doguin led York with 22 total digs with an average of 4.40 per set.
