Huffman Scores Twice as #8 Spartans Down Stevenson 2-1

The Spartans improve to 4-0 on the road

OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College field hockey team ran their win streak to three on Saturday as they outlasted the weather and the Stevenson Mustangs, 2-1, in Owings Mills, Maryland. The eighth-ranked Spartans got two goals from forward Hannah Huffman to earn the MAC Commonwealth win.
York is now 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. The Mustangs fall to 8-7 overall while they are now 1-2 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Spartans dominated the first quarter as they out-shot the Mustangs 5-0. The Spartans capitalized on their pressure late in the quarter as the Green and White drew their lone penalty corner of the quarter with three seconds left in the period. Riley Buschert inserted the ball to Hannah Huffman. Huffman ripped a shot that was blocked but she captured the rebound and made the most of the second chance as she drove home the carom to give York the 1-0 lead.
• Stevenson had the better of the statistical battle in the second quarter as they outshot the Spartans 5-2 while both teams had three penalty corners. All five of the Mustang shots were off target as Belle Fields was not forced to make a save. The teams headed to half time with the Spartans holding the 1-0 lead.
• The Mustangs tied the game at one just 3:41 into the second half as they drew a penalty stroke. Emma Glandstein stepped up to the circle and put the shot home for her league-leading 14th goal of the year. The Spartans had plenty of chances to take the lead in the third quarter, out shooting the Mustangs 6-2 in the quarter. York also had a 3-1 margin in penalty corners in the quarter.
• York got the go-ahead goal 1:39 into the fourth quarter as the Spartans drew another penalty corner. Buschert inserted the ball to Huffman who drove a shot into the back of the cage for the 2-1 lead. The goal was Huffman's fifth of the year. The Spartan defense did the rest as they limited the Mustangs to one shot over the final 13 minutes of the game to salt away the win.
• York ended the game holding a 16-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-1 margin in shots on goal. The Spartans also finished the game with a 10-4 margin in penalty corners.
