How It Happened
• The Spartans kicked off the scoring a mere 1:17 into the game as the Spartans drew a penalty corner. The ball was inserted by
Katie Martino and her pass went to
Sara Pique. Pique found fellow senior
Brooke Cordisco who put the ball into the back of the cage for her first goal of the year.
• The Spartans wasted little time in adding to the lead as they made it 2-0 on a
Riley Buschert goal off a rebound just 4:40 into the game. Freshman forward
Olivia Miller tacked on a third first quarter goal as she scored off a
Hannah Huffman pass with 8:42 left in the first quarter. The Spartans ended the quarter holding a 9-1 advantage in total shots, a 9-0 bulge in shots on goal and a 4-1 margin in penalty corners.
• York kept the pressure on in the second quarter and added to the lead just four minutes into the stanza. The Spartans drew a penalty corner at the 18:42 mark. Buschert fired off the initial shot that was cleared off the line by Eagle defender Grace Wise but Martino collected the rebound and hammered home the second chance to make it 4-0 York. The Green and White made it 5-0 with 3:25 remaining before the half as Buschert notched her second goal of the game off a pass from freshman
Kelsey Welsh. The Spartans dominated the second quarter as they out-shot the Eagles 13-0 including a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal while they had four penalty corners.
• The third quarter saw the Eagles have a little more of the play but York still ended the quarter with a 5-0 margin in shots including a 3-0 margin in shots on goal. Neither team had a third quarter penalty corner.
• The Spartans tacked onto the lead early in the fourth as Cordisco scored her second goal of the game off a loose ball in the circle 1:37 into the quarter. The Spartans continued to pepper the Eastern goal but they would be unable to score for the remainder of the game.
• York finished the game out shooting the Eagles 33-1 including 26-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans had eight corners to just one for Eastern. Eagle goalie Abby Agapito was busy as she made 18 saves in the match. The 18 saves marks the fourth straight game that she has registered double figures in saves.
