CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The York men's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season where they earned a 1-1 draw with 14th-ranked Washington College on Wednesday night.

Jack Mitzelfelt netted York's lone tally in the opening minute of play and the Shoremen netted the equalizer 57 minutes later on a PK goal by Ben Strine.

Team Records
York 2-0-1
#14 Washington (Md.) 0-0-2

How It Happened
  • The Spartans capitalized on a defensive mishap by the Shoremen to get on the board just moments after the opening whistle. Junior midfielder Luke Nall sent a cross from the far endline into the center of the box where the ball slipped past Washington defender Chris Comber. Spartan forward Jack Mitzelfelt was there to tap the rolling ball past keeper Anthony Pinto who had left his net to make a play on the shot.
  • Brady Bixler and the Spartan defense pitched a first-half shutout with Washington generating more scoring chances than the Spartans. Bixler made three saves as he faced seven total shots and the Shoremen owned a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • 13 minutes into the second half, the Shoremen broke the shutout bid as they were awarded a PK after Eric Gwadz was allegedly taken down in the box by Bixler. Ben Strive took the kick for WAC and ripped the equalizer into the left corner of the net.
  • Bixler went on to make three more saves after the Washington PK to preserve the tie with the Shoremen owning a 7-2 shot advantage during the final 23 minutes of play.

The Spartans are back on the road for a Saturday non-conference tilt at Susquehanna starting at 1 p.m.
