Brown's Bomb Lifts Spartans to 1-0 Win over Salisbury

Abby Brown scored with less than 10 minutes left to lift York to victory

YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer team got a long goal from freshman Abby Brown to down Salisbury 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action in York on Wednesday in York. The battle featured a pair of former Capital Athletic Conference rivals.
The Spartans improve to 2-1 while the Sea Gulls fall to 2-2.

How It Happened
• The first half featured a distinct lack of offensive chances for either team. The Sea Gulls held an 8-1 advantage in first half shots but Salisbury had just three of those come on goal. All three shots resulted in routine saves for Spartan keeper Jacqueline Keogh.
• The offensive pace picked up in the second half. The Sea Gulls best scoring opportunity was a great one as Kristen Ging had the ball on her foot and an open cage in front of her. Her shot from about eight yards was well over the cage as the game remained scoreless in the 78th minute.
• The Spartans' chance in the 82nd minute wasn't their best but it proved to be the most fruitful. Senior Erin Snyder played a ball back to Abby Brown. Brown settled the ball on her foot and then blasted another long distance shot from about 36 yards out over Salisbury keeper Riley Pinato for the go-ahead goal.
• The Sea Gulls managed two shots on goal over the final six minutes of the game but Keough registered saves on both to maintain the clean sheet.
