YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team picked up their second-straight win of the season in a convincing 3-0 victory over Arcadia Sunday evening in front of the home faithful at Graham Field

Arcadia 1-1-0
York 2-0-0

How It Happened
  • The Spartans had the jump on Arcadia early with a pair of shots on goal to zero by the Knights through the first 21 minutes of play. Tyler Howlett had the hot foot for York as he had both of those shots, one in the 11th minute and one again in the 21st.
  • York remained on the offensive and reached paydirt in the 24th minute. Noah Roche moved the ball up the left side and then played it back to Shaun Apsley in the left slot. Apsley on-touched a through ball to Jack Mitzelfelt in the left side of the box who then slipped a shot low to the right corner past a diving Jake Varrato for his first tally of the season.
  • The Spartan pressure led to another tally in the 41st minute. Brayden Safley ripped a shot from approximately 24 yards out which forced an outstanding diving save by Varrato. The knights were unable to corral the rebound and on an attempt to clear, their pass was intercepted by Sean Metz just inside the 30-yard line. Metz quickly adjusted his feet and sent a shot hurling into the upper right corner of the net for his goal of the year as York took a 2-0 lead.
  • After the Spartans limited the Knights to just two shots through the first 24 minutes of action in the second half, Arcadia generated several scoring chances between the 78th and 81st minutes. During that span, the Knights compiled three corner kicks and three shots, with Mason Boyd denying fellow keeper Varrato on a free kick from beyond midfield.
  • Matt Martin put the finishing touch on the Spartan victory in the 81st minute with his first career tall. The freshman tracked down a pass up the left side and beat a defender before scorching a shot to the back of the net.
