Spartans Suffer First Home Loss of Season

York's five-game home win streak snapped in 1-0 loss to Susquehanna

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team suffered their first home loss of the season in six games with a 1-0 defeat to Susquehanna Wednesday night on Graham Field.

Susquehanna's Delaney Morton tallied the game's lone goal of the contest in the 10th minute of play as she capitalized on a Spartan turnover deep in their defensive zone.

Team Records
Susquehanna 7-3-0
York 5-3-1

How It Happened
  • Susquehanna played ball into the box towards the left post where it was crossed back to the middle, Moriah Morton attempted to head the ball out of danger, but her clear attempt was intercepted by Delaney Morton who then ripped a shot to the upper left corner of net for her second tally of the season.
  • The Spartans had a quality chance to even the score in the 61st minute on a free kick opportunity from the 19-yard line. Sabrina McGuigan took the kick for York and nailed a shot over the Susquehanna wall of defenders, but her attempt was denied by a massive diving save by River Hawk keeper Paisley Tornatore to preserve her team's lead.
  • Gillian Maack had a great opportunity to extend the SU lead in the 65th minute. She had a clear look on target from the 18-yard line, but fortunately for the Spartans her well-struck shot caught the crossbar and deflected back into the field of play where York gained possession.
  • The Spartans had one last prime opportunity with just over three minutes left to play. Makayla Harper played a ball into the box where Anna Morton managed to run on to it, but a heads up play by Tornatore to leave her net and get a piece of the ball thwarted the scoring threat.

Up Next
The Spartans wrap up their three-game home stand Saturday with a MAC Commonwealth tilt with Widener set for 12 p.m.

Notes
York is now 2-2-1 with Susquehanna in the all-time series … the River Hawks notched their fifth-consecutive win on their fifth-straight shutout; they have out-scored opponents 10-0 on this run … the Spartans saw their 5-0 home record receive its first blemish of the season … this year's 5-0 run at home the best start and streak in program history behind the 8-0 start at home in 2009 … the Spartans have only surrendered two goals through six games on Graham Field this season.
