York 5-3-2 (0-0-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Spartans generated numerous chances in the first half of play as they owned a 6-2 shot advantage and a 5-0 margin in corner kicks.
  • A great opportunity for York came in the 10th minute on a second-chance ball off a corner kick. Keziah Boyce swung a curling pass in from the right corner to Makayla Harper who elevated on the doorstep of the goal, but her header attempt went just over the crossbar and out of play.
  • The Spartans put together another prime chance in the 22nd minute when Anna Morton carried the ball into the left side of the box and put a hard shot on frame which ultimately forced a stellar diving save by Widener keeper Samantha Coon.
  • York put together a pair of quality opportunities in the 25th and 26th minutes, but the Spartans failed to connect. A 15-yard strike from Alyssa Russell found the crossbar and soon after Morton had a one-on-one with Coon on the left wing, but her shot was turned away by another diving effort by the Widener keeper.
  • The Spartans dominated time of possession through the first 20 minutes of play to open the second, but the Pride held tough, holding York to just one shot and one corner kick.
  • With limited chances through the first 70 minutes of play, Widener remained persistent and their work paid off in the 71st minute. The Pride worked up the field and Emily Schall progressed the ball into the left side of the box. She then fed a pass back towards the middle to Kelly Barr who eluded her defender with a change of direction and finished to the lower right corner.
  • The Spartans wasted little time in responding as Makayla Harper scored in the 78th minute of play. Following a throw- in, Erin Snyder received the entry pass and drove to the right end line where she fed a cross into the box to Harper who slipped a quick shot past Coon to the right side.
  • York had a great opportunity to take the lead 10 minutes after netting the equalizer when Emma Woods had a shot from seven yards out, but she was denied by another sprawling save by Coon.
