Men's Soccer Suffers First Setback of 2022

Rochester's late first half goal enough to hand the Spartans their first loss.

YORK, PA – The York College men's soccer team dropped their first match of the year, falling to the University of Rochester 1-0 on Saturday at Graham Field.
The Spartans fall to 5-1-2 overall while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1-1.

How It Happened
• The pace was furious from the beginning as the teams went back and forth in an action packed first 20 minutes of the game. The pace eventually slowed as both teams settled in. The Yellow Jackets had a great chance in the 22nd minute as Jeremiah Anadarajah hit a header off a corner that just slid right of the goal as the game remained scoreless. The Spartans had their best chance of the half in the 32nd minute as Sean Metz hit a good centering pass that found the head of Mitchell Seipt. Seipt's header was just left of frame for the Spartans.
• The Yellow Jackets got the game's lone goal with 25.4 seconds left in the first half. The Yellow Jackets played a ball into the box. The Spartans weren't able to clear the ball and Shray Parimoo collected the loose ball, turned and fired a shot that found the back of the net for his first goal of the year. Rochester ended the half holding an 8-5 edge in shots while their margin in shots on goal was 3-1.
• The Yellow Jackets came flying out of the half as they were very direct in their play. Spartan goalie Brady Bixler made a fantastic save in the 58th minute as Ben Goldberg got a shot off a corner. Bixler was able to collect the ball and keep the Spartan deficit at one. York's best chance of the half came in the 63rd minute as Dermot Williamson struck a shot off a corner kick that went just above the cross bar for a Rochester goal kick.
• After Williamson's shot, there would be one combined shot over the final 17 minutes of the game. Rochester out shot York 6-2 in the second half including 2-0 in shots on goal.

Spartan Notes
The teams met for the second straight year after last year's tie in Rochester … the Spartans suffered their first shutout in the game … York entered the game averaging 2.14 goals per game … the loss is the first at home for York as they are now 4-1-1 … York finished their season-high four game home stand with a mark of 2-1-1 … York will play four of their next five on the road after playing six of their first eight at home … York has been out shot in seven of their eight games including their last six straight … York managed just one shot on goal in the game, a season low … York was out-cornered 6-4 and has been out-cornered for the year 55-28 … the Rochester goal was just the fifth goal York has conceded for the year.
