#17 Spartans Shutout Alvernia for Conference Road Win

READING, Pa. - The Spartan field hockey squad snapped a five-game Alvernia win streak with a 2-0 road victory over the Golden Wolves in a MAC Commonwealth clash on Saturday.

Team Records
#17 York 6-2 (2-0 MACC)
Alvernia 6-2 (1-1 MACC)

How It Happened
  • The Spartans wasted little time taking the lead when Carrie Shuey connected with Connie Harburda in the seventh minute for Harburda's second goal of the season to give York a 1-0 lead.
  • The stoudt York defense held strong as the Golden Wolves provided the pressure in the second quarter with a 5-3 shot advantage and a 5-0 margin in penalty corners.
  • The Spartans held Alvernia to just one shot in the third, which found its way on target, but was turned away by defender Libby Wild to preserve York's one-goal lead.
  • Kat Knox padded the Spartan lead with a goal just over 10 minutes left to play as she now has six on the season.

Notes
The Spartans have now won the last two meetings with the Golden Wolves as York improves to 9-7 in the all-time series … York has out-scored its conference opponents 7-0 through two games this season … York is now 6-for-6 with shutouts in victories this season … the Spartans have six shutouts through just eight games this season while posting seven in 19 games last season … the program single-season record for shutouts is eight … York is one of just seven teams in the nation with three or less goals allowed on the season.
