Women's Soccer Remains Perfect at Home

Spartans record third home shutout of the season

YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer team continues to be very strong at home as the Spartans blanked Elizabethtown 2-0 on a sunny Saturday in York.
The Spartans improve to 4-0 at home and 4-2 overall. York has registered three straight shutouts at home and have allowed just one goal in their four home games. Elizabethtown falls to 3-3 overall.

How It Happened
• The Spartans took the play to the Blue Jays early as they squeezed off four shots in the opening eight minutes of the game. The best chance came off the foot of Abby Brown as she struck a long shot that just went over the cross bar. Elizabethtown answered with a shot off the cross bar and a shot requiring Spartan goalie Jacqueline Keogh to make a sprawling save over the next five minutes.
• The Spartans resumed their offensive pressure with four straight shots, the last of which required Blue Jay goalie Trinity Soto to make a fantastic save to keep York off the board. Despite the constant pressure, the Spartans couldn't solve Soto in the first half as they held a 14-3 edge in total shots and a 5-2 margin in shots on goal.
• York finally broke through in the 57th minute of the game. Ashlynn Weger had a breakaway and was taken down in the box, drawing a penalty kick for York. Senior captain Erin Snyder took the PK and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 Spartan lead. York almost made it 2-0 just over two minutes later as Sabrina McGuigan hit a long shot that Soto made another fantastic save on, punching the ball over the crossbar for the save.
• York did strike for a second goal in the 64th minute as Snyder struck a beautiful outlet pass that found the foot of Anna Morton. Morton carried the ball into the box and hit a brilliant shot into the upper left 90 for her first goal of the year.
• Elizabethtown had a small flurry in the final 12 minutes of the game but Keogh had a nice save to preserve the shutout.
