Spartans Blank Diplomats in Route 30 Rivalry

York earns their fourth shutout of the year

LANCASTER, PA – The York College field hockey squad continued their season-high five game road trip with a 2-0 win over Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday in Lancaster. Both teams are receiving votes in the most recent NFHCA Coaches Poll.
The Spartans have won two straight in the series as they improve to 4-1 while the Diplomats fall to 3-2.

How It Happened
• The first quarter was evenly played without either team holding any significant advantage. The Diplomats held a 3-1 edge in total shots but York's one attempt was on target. Both teams had two corners in the opening 15 minutes of play.
• The Green and White finally broke through midway through the second quarter. York's Kat Knox took a penalty corner. She fed the ball to Libby Wild who sent a shot towards goal. Senior Connie Harburda tipped in the chance for her first goal of the season. The Spartan defense did the rest in the quarter as he held the Diplomats without a second quarter shot.
• The Spartans kept the pressure on to start the third as York earned a penalty corner 1:03 in the half. York then got a shot from Katie Martino that was initially saved. Riley Buschert captured the rebound and fed Martino was a pass that she finished off for the 2-0 York lead.
• The Diplomats gained some momentum late in the third quarter with a pair of penalty corners and three shots but Belle Fields registered a pair of saves to keep the Spartans in front.
• Franklin & Marshall had a furious comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. The Spartans were up to the task as Fields registered three saves on five Diplomat shots in the quarter. F&M had five fourth quarter penalty corners but were unable to find the back of the cage.
