Widener 0-8 (0-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • York rolled to a 25-16 opening set win as Megan Rizzi led the way with seven of the team's 15 kills. Rizzi, along with Jennifer Taylor and Morgan Nolte combined for four kills as the Spartans opened up with a 6-1 advantage. The Pride clawed their way back to cut the deficit to 9-5, but the Spartans went on to take a commanding 17-9 lead with Rizzi and Nolte notching two kills on the 9-4 run. York remained in control the rest of the way and Rizzi tallied the final two kills of the set to seal the win.
  • The Spartans took advantage of a -.028 Widener hitting percentage to clinch a 25-18 second set win with Rizzi (4) and Nolte (3) combining for seven of the team's 10 kills in the frame. The two sides went back-and-forth to begin the set before the Spartans broke open an 11-4 lead with a 7-0 run fueled by a pair of Rizzi kills and an Alyssa Mott service ace. The Pride cut their deficit to four (12-8), but the Spartans responded with a 7-1 run to swell their lead to 10 (19-9) with Nolte and Claire Shorb each notching a pair of kills on the run. Widener once again cut the deficit to four (19-15), but from there, York ended the set on a 6-3 run with another pair of kills by Rizzi.
  • The Pride prevented a Spartan sweep by taking the second set, 26-24. Taylor led York with four kills early on to give York a 14-7 lead, which proved to be the largest lead of the set. From there, Widener came storming back to tie the set, 16-16. The two teams traded punches the rest of the way as neither could break away until ultimately Widener ended the set with a 4-1 scoring advantage to clinch the set.
  • The Pride evened up the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set despite owning a 17-13 edge in kills throughout the set. The Pride led wire-to-wire and led by as much as seven on multiple occasions. The Spartans fought their way back and cut the deficit to two (22-20) on back-to-back kills by Shorb. York continued to battle and tied the match, 23-23 with a pair of Nolte Kills and a service ace by Jackie Karcz, but the comeback bid would be denied as the Pride claimed the next two points to force a fifth set.
  • The Spartans came out strong in the fifth and led start to finish to a 15-8 win. Abby Diehl set the tone with back-to-back service aces as the Spartans jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Pride came back to cut the deficit to 5-4, but a 7-0 Spartan run led by three Rizzi kills put York ahead, 10-5. The Spartans needed just two more kills the rest of the way to clinch the match as Widener committed three errors down the stretch.
