How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a great start in the top of the first.
Robby Elzinga led off the game with a lead off double to left. A ground out moved Elzinga to third before
Jack Barry plated him with a ground ball as he reached on an error.
Joe Capobianco walked and
Andrew Santarpia singled to the pitcher to load the bases.
Brendan Martin walked to make it 2-0.
Michael Tinneny was hit by a pitch to drive in another run.
Brian Jakubek then walked to score Santarpia for the 4-0 Spartan lead.
• York added a single run in the second as
Austin Denlinger was hit by a pitch to open the inning. After a pair of fly outs, Denlinger stole second and scored on a Santarpia RBI single. The Mustangs got that run back with a Dylan Scott solo homer to left as York led 5-1 after two innings of play.
• York added a run in the third as Tinneny singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out to second. He scored on a
Brian Jakubek sacrifice fly to right. Jakubek was also in the middle of a fifth inning rally as he doubled to left with one out. He then came around to score on an Elzinga infield single as York led 7-1.
• That would be more than enough for Spartan starter
AJ Vincenzi as the right-hander was dominant as he tossed seven innings, scattering six hits, allowing just one run with eight strikeouts and just one walk.
• The Green and White put the game out of reach in the sixth. Barry walked to open the frame and he came around to score on a Capobianco home run to left center.
Joey Ricciardi added a two-run double to right center to make it 11-1. Elzinga then had a two-run double of his own to complete the inning.
• York closed out the scoring in the ninth as
George Mendoza singled and scored when Martin lashed a double down the third base line for the final 14-1 margin of victory.
