YORK, PA – On a day more fitting for a midweek game in early March, the York College softball squad split a MAC doubleheader with Stevenson University on Wednesday in York. The Mustangs outlasted York 7-6 in the opener while the Spartans salvaged the split with a 13-5 win in the nightcap.

How It Happened
• The Mustangs jumped all over the Spartans in the top of the first inning as they plated three runs to take the early advantage. York got a run back in the bottom of the first as
Elle Meyer singled and scored when
Natalie Decena singled to right and the Mustang right fielder led the ball get past her to the wall for a two-base error.
• Stevenson got three unearned runs in the third as the Mustangs took advantage of a Spartan error as Jillian Haines blasted a two-out, three run homer to center.
• Another Spartan error allowed the Mustangs to score a seventh run in the fourth, pushing the lead to 7-1.
• The Spartans rallied in the sixth.
Taylor Lindsay jacked a three-run homer to left over the scoreboard, cutting York's deficit to 7-4.
Alyssa Harhigh followed later in the inning with a two run shot that also cleared the board as the Spartans pulled to within a run at 7-6.
• York opened the bottom of the seventh with a single and a walk but Marissa Heuer got the next three hitters to close out the Stevenson win.

How It Happened
• The game began with a Spartan error which set the stage for a Mustang unearned run to open the scoring in the top of the first. York responded in a big way with a six run inning.
Emma Wade kicked off the scoring with an RBI infield single. A Mustang error allowed a second run to score as York took the 2-1 lead. A bases loaded walk to
Hannah Vogt pushed the lead to 4-1.
Taylor Coon had an RBI single and
Elle Meyer followed with an RBI single of her own for the 6-1 lead.
•
Daphney Adams had an RBI single to center to increase the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the third. York tacked on four more runs in the fourth highlighted by a two-run double to left center. A third run scored on the play on a Mustang error. A second error in the inning allowed Harhigh to score for the 11-1 advantage.
• The Mustangs kept the game alive in the fifth with a four-run outburst as they banged out five hits, cutting York's lead to 11-5.
• The Spartans were able to envoke the mercy rule as
Kaela Fritz walked, scored on an
Emma Keller double to left center. Keller would score on an
Emily Netterville pinch hit single up the middle to end the game via the eight-run mercy rule.
