Women's Tennis Pushes Win Streak to Five

Spartans captured five of the six singles matches

YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team remained red hot as the Spartans picked up their fifth straight win with a 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win over Messiah University on a windy Wednesday afternoon in York.

The Spartans improve to 7-4 overall and are now 5-1 in the conference. The Falcons fall to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Spartans have clinched, at minimum, the third seed in next week's MAC Commonwealth tournament while they still have the ability to earn the second seed on Saturday.

On Wednesday, the Spartans got off to a good start as they won two of the three doubles contests. Elsa Oestermarker and Lauren Ostermann teamed up to win the first doubles match over Kasi Conjack and Angela Tozzi 8-4. The Spartan second doubles duo of Michaela Sentz and Brianna Rohrer outlasted Rachel Marcroft and Rebekah Sheaffer 8-7 (8-6) to put York up 2-0. The Falcons third doubles team of Hannah Murray and Sarah Fleming edged Kelsey Sheets and Eleanor Beck 8-7 (8-6).

In singles play, Oestermarker blanked Conjack 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles contest. Sentz posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Marcroft in the second singles match. Ostermann earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Sheaffer in the third singles match to secure the win.

Rohrer earned another Spartan victory as she bested Tozzi 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth singles contest. Beck closed at the match for the Spartans with a 6-4, 6-2 sixth singles win to provide for the final 7-2 margin of victory.

The Spartans close out the regular season on Saturday as they host Alvernia University in a MAC Commonwealth contest. The second seed is on the line as the two teams are tied at 5-1 in the conference standings. The winner will be the two seed while the loser will travel to the winner in next week's MAC Commonwealth Semifinals.

Saturday's match is slated for a 1:00 pm start in York.
