#12 Spartans Celebrate Senior Day with 17-8 Victory Over Widener

York improves conference win streak to 11

YORK, Pa. - No. 12 York women's lacrosse rode a wave of eight goals in the third quarter to a 17-8 victory over Commonwealth foe Widener Saturday in the Spartan's final home game of the regular season.

The Spartans scored six-straight to start the third quarter which stretched a one-goal halftime lead into a 12-5 advantage to put the Pride away. Chloe MacDonald and Madison Kurland each scored a pair on that six-goal run. Kiersten Blanchard made an impact all day as she led all players with five points on two goals and a game-high three assists to go along with a career-high 11 draw controls.

Team Records
Widener 9-6 (4-2 MACC)
#12 York 11-5 (7-0 MACC)

How It Happened
A pair of Spartan seniors gave York an early 2-0 lead with goals by Riley Roeder and Teresa Matthias. The Pride did not wilt under the early pressure and came back to tie the game, 2-2, with 6:10 left in the opening period. But 28 seconds later, another senior stepped up for York as Jenna Cholowinski netted a go-ahead goal to give her team a 3-2 edge at the end of one period of play.

Kiersten Blanchard had a monster second quarter as she scored a goal, dished out an assist and picked up three of draw controls. She finished the first half with six of York's nine draw controls with four points. Despite her herculean efforts, the Spartans found themselves in a dogfight up 6-5 at halftime after Widener scored twice in the final 30 seconds of the half.

The game quickly busted wide open when Gianna Huet and Chloe MacDonald combined for three goals 1:06 apart to start a six-goal run for York to open the third quarter. Logan Ward and Madison Kurland scored 56 apart before Kurland tacked on another two-and-a-half minutes later to cap the run and put York up by seven. The Spartans owned a 7-3 advantage in draw controls in the third with Blanchard leading the way with three herself.

The two teams traded goals in the fourth, but York's eight-goal lead to start the period was too much for the Pride to overcome. Bella Garabo and McKenna Seashole combined to shut out Widener in the last 7:19 of play.
