How It Happened
The Falcons owned the game's first lead on a tally 3:56 into the game. The Spartans quickly rallied and ripped off four straight goals in a span of six-and-a-half minutes to take a 4-1 lead with a 3:06 left in the first quarter. Messiah fought back with a pair of goals in the final 2:38 while York hit a post and had another shot saved during that span as the Spartans clung to a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play.

The two teams traded blows to start the second quarter and Messiah had York on the ropes tied 5-5 with 8:02 left in the period. Suddenly, the Spartans came to life and scored four-straight to end the half and took a 9-5 lead into halftime.

The Spartans ended the first half winning five-straight faceoffs, all by Hugo Spencer, and followed that up with five-straight more faceoff wins by Vinny Facciponti to open the third quarter. During that span, York went on a 9-1 run to take a 14-6 advantage with 5:00 left in the third. Eric Ranck opened and closed the run with a pair of tallies, while Will Harnick also chipped in a pair and Ames Clark dished out a trio of assists.

York out-scored Messiah 8-2 on a staggering 20-2 shot advantage in the pivotal third quarter as the Spartans also won the ground ball (14-7) and faceoff (7-2) battles in the period to put the game out of reach with a 17-7 lead.

York put the finishing touches on the win with a fourth-quarter shutout, led by Jack Keller's three saves in net. Michael Russo dished out a pair of assists in York's 5-0 closeout run, including one a JD Townsend behind-the-back goal to beat the shot clock late in the fourth.

Up Next
The Spartans are on the road Friday night for a Commonwealth contest at Widener.

Notes
York improves to 5-2 all-time against Messiah since the series began in 2008 with the Spartans winning the last two … York has now won 16-straight conference home games dating back through the 2017 season (last loss: April 13, 2016 to Salisbury) … York's 11-game overall win streak matches the second-best streak in program history from 2019 ... the Spartans have now qualified for conference postseason play every season (minus 2020) since the program elevated to varsity status in 2000.
