ANNVILLE, PA – In a rematch of the 2021 MAC Commonwealth women's tennis championship match, the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen got a measure of revenge as they bested the Spartans 7-2 in the conference opener for both squads.
The Spartans fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the league while the Dutchmen improve to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Dutchmen swept the three doubles points. LVC's third doubles team of Sarah Kramer and Eliana Shenk kicked off the match with an 8-3 win over
Morrissey Walsh and
Eleanor Beck. The second doubles team of Meredith Haas and Madison Poladain doubled up
Michaela Sentz and
Brianna Rohrer 8-4 for the 2-0 lead. Jacquelyn McBride and Nicole Honrade edged
Elsa Oestermarker and
Lauren Ostermann 8-6 in the first doubles.
Haas kicked off the singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 third singles win over Ostermann. Honrade clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 second singles win over Sentz to push the lead to 5-0. McBride outlasted Oestermarker 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a battle of two of the top players in the league in the first singles match.
The Spartans avoided the shutout as Walsh earned a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 fifth singles win over Poladian while Rohrer picked up a fourth singles win over Honrade.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when they host Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Centre at 3:30 pm.
