#6 Spartans Clip Eagles in Commonwealth Clash

YORK, Pa. - Another hot start led to another lopsided Commonwealth victory as No. 6 York pulled away to a 21-6 victory over Eastern on Saturday.

The Spartans overran the Eagles from the start as they opened up an 8-0 first quarter lead and turned it into a 12-2 edge at halftime. Freshman Ben Mayer racked up five first-half points on his way to a season-best eight on a season-high six goals

Team Records
Eastern 3-7 (1-1 MACC)
#6 York 7-2 (2-0 MACC)

How It Happened
Averaging over two goals per minute through the first two minutes, four different goal scorers lifted York to a 4-0 advantage in just 169 seconds and added a fifth just 3:10 minutes into the first quarter. Dylan Wolf compiled a first-quarter hat trick as the Spartans owned an 8-0 goal advantage and a 23-3 edge in shots. Vinny Facciponti and Hugo Spencer kept possession in York's favor as the two combined to win eight of nine faceoffs.

Ben Mayer scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter to give York a commanding 10-0 lead before Eastern finally ended the drought with a tally 5:17 into the period. Ethan Greene swelled the lead back to 10 as he finished off another Will Harnick assist, this time in transition on the man-down unit. Ryan Kennedy started the play by causing a turnover in the defensive end and found Harnick on the outlet.

Mayer tacked on his third goal of the second quarter less than a minute after Greene's tally as the Saprtans led 12-2 at the halftime break. York owned a 38-14 shot margin at the half and 27-12 edge in ground balls.

Mayer added two more tallies in the third with Harnick and Eben Ordakowski getting on the score sheet for the first time on the day. The Spartans made life even more miserable for the Eagles in the quarter as they caused five of Eastern's seven turnovers in the third.

After Mayer tallied his sixth goal early in the fourth quarter, York rolled through the lines as JD Townsend (twice), Ethan Fought and Nick Lilly all found the back of the net for the first time on the day.

Up Next
The Spartans remain at home where they will face Albright on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
