How It Happened
For just the third time this season, but for the second-straight game the Spartans surrendered the game's opening goal. The Bullets scored 35 seconds after the opening faceoff and then tacked on another less than four minutes later for a 2-0 advantage.

Ben Mayer sandwiched a pair of tallies around a Gettysburg man-up goal as the Spartans trailed, 3-2, at the conclusion of one quarter of play. The Bullets owned a 4-2 edge in faceoffs in the first quarter and held the Spartan extra-man unit scoreless on two attempts.

York knotted up the score, 3-3, when Will Harnick found Ames Clark in front of the net for the equalizer 59 seconds into the second period. York failed to score on the next two possessions and Gettysburg pounced on the opportunity. The Bullets scored three unanswered goals in less than three minutes, including once more on the man-advantage, as they shut out the Spartans the rest of the half to take 6-3 edge into the break.

After winning just five of 10 faceoffs in the first half, Vinny Facciponti came out of the gates strong to start the third quarter as he won three-straight to fuel a 4-0 Spartan run in the third. The two goalies combined for five saves in the final seven minutes of the period, including three by Gettysburg's Scott MacMillan, as the Spartans owned a narrow 7-6 lead at the end of three.

The Spartans squandered away three-straight possessions to start the fourth quarter which opened the door for Gettysburg who scored a pair 47 seconds apart to jump back out in front, 8-7, with 8:10 left. The Spartans won the ensuing faceoff and went to work offensively, eventually netted the equalizer 1:21 later when Jarrod Marenger picked up a rebound and slipped a shot past MacMillan on the doorstep.

Gettysburg won the next faceoff following Marenger's tally, but the Bullets failed to gain traction as they turned the ball four times in the final seven minutes, including three unforced errors.

The door was left open for York and the Spartans took advantage. Ryan Kennedy picked up a loose ball following a Bullet turnover and transitioned up to Will Harnick who curled in from the left side and beat MacMillan low for the eventual game-winner.

Ethan Greene corralled the ground ball on the ensuing faceoff and York burned the clock down to 1:38 before handing possession back to the Bullets, but Gettysburg turned it over twice in the final 1:20 as York held on to win.

Up Next
The Spartans return home Wednesday night to face Messiah in a Commonwealth clash slated to begin at 7 p.m.
