Spartans Comeback in Game One for Doubleheader Split at LVC

YORK, Pa. - The York softball squad pulled off a 7-6 comeback win in game one and then fell, 11-3, in game two for a Commonwealth doubleheader split at Lebanon Valley Friday afternoon.

GAME 1
York 7, Lebanon Valley 6

Pitchers of Record
WP: Taylor Lindsay (10-4)
LP: Jordan Walter (9-4)

How It Happened
A Dutchmen error with two prolonged the top of the first inning and the Spartans took advantage. Daphney Adams and Emma Wade hit back-to-back RBI doubles to York out in front, 2-0, early.

The Spartans took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the third where things went sideways for Green and White. LVC started the inning single, triple, double, with Julia Craig's double tying the score, 3-3. The Dutchmen had more work to do and Jordan Hess delivered with a three-run homer to put LVC out to 6-3 lead. The Spartans managed to get out of the inning with just a three-run deficit as they stranded a pair of Dutchmen baserunners.

After the third inning, LVC pitcher Jordan Walter went on to retire the next nine Spartan batters in order as the Dutchmen took a 6-3 lead into the top of the seventh.

The outlook seemed bleak for York entering the seventh, but the Spartans mustered up a miraculous four-run rally and then held LVC hitless in the bottom half to pull off the come-from-behind victory. Emily Netterville jump-started the rally with her pinch-hit double to get the first run in. Alyssa Harhigh came through in the clutch with a two-out, two-run double to knot up the score, 6-6, before Wade drove in Harhigh with a single for the eventual game-winning run.

GAME 2
Lebanon Valley 11, York 3

Team Records
Lebanon Valley 16-7 (7-3 MACC)
York 13-10 (5-3 MACC)

Pitchers of Record
WP: Erin Sinatra (7-2)
LP: Hannah Vogt (3-5)

How It Happened
York scored in each of the first three innings with Alyssa Harhigh and Emma Wade each hitting solo home runs, and coming through again in the third with an RBI single. Hannah Vogt retired the first six batters she faced in order with six-straight ground outs.

The Dutchmen would go to get one run back in the third, and then proceeded to score two more in the fourth and three more in the sixth to take 6-3 lead.

After holding the Spartans scoreless in the top of the sixth, LVC went on to score five runs on five hits to end the game on mercy rule as they owned an 11-8 lead. York was shutout in the final three innings and left nine runners stranded during that span after scoring in each of the first three innings.

Up Next
The Spartans return to play Tuesday in a MAC Commonwealth crossover doubleheader at home against Misericordia.
