Spartans Swept by Susquehanna in Tuesday Twin Bill

YORK, Pa. - The York softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to Susquehanna Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Stadium as the River Hawks claimed a clean sweep in the season series, 3-0.

GAME 1
Susquehanna 3, York 2

Pitchers of Record
WP: Katie Murphy (7-1)
LP: Taylor Lindsay (9-4)

How It Happened
The River Hawks scored three runs in the top of the six to erase a two-run deficit and held the Spartans scoreless for the final two frames to pull off the come-from-behind victory.

After three-and-a-half scoreless frames, the Spartans got on the board first with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. With two outs, Kaela Fritz came in to score from second on an error by Erin Bean at second base. Later in the inning, the Spartans loaded the bases and Alyssa Harhigh worked a walk to bring in Taylor Coon before Katie Murphy relieved Gabby Bubba and recorded a strikeout on the first she faced to end the inning.

Taylor Lindsay had a no-hitter working through five-and-two-thirds innings and retired 12-straight batters from the end of the first to two-thirds through the fifth inning. After the River Hawks broke up the no-hit bid two-thirds of the way through the sixth, they proceeded to go on a three-run rally, which ultimately sealed York's fate as the Spartans were held hitless themselves in the last two innings.

GAME 2
Susquehanna 5, York 1

Team Records
Susquehanna 13-5
York 12-8

Pitchers of Record
WP: Katie Murphy (8-1)
LP: Hannah Vogt (3-4)

How It Happened
The two teams traded runs in the first. Alyssa Harhigh did all the offensive damage as she tripled to center field and scored on the play as an errant throw on the relay to third allowed to come in to score.

Harhigh's run would be the last for York on the day and would be the only Spartan baserunner to reach third until Daphney Adams did so in the sixth, but was left stranded.

The River Hawks took the lead in the second with two runs on three hits and had the game on lockdown from then on. Katie Murphy replaced Gabby Bubba in the circle to start the third inning and went on to retire 15 of the final 18 Spartan batters, surrendering just two hits and striking out five.

Up Next
The Spartans return to Commonwealth play Thursday with a trip to Lebanon Valley for a doubleheader with the Dutchmen starting at 3 p.m.
