Spartans Fall to Lake Forest in Rain-Soaked Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The York softball team fell 8-1 in a rain-shortened game with Lake Forest on day two of York's Florida swing. With just one left in the bottom of the sixth inning, the skies opened up and forced the game to adjourn.

The Foresters put York away early as they scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning and the Spartans recovered.

Emily Netterville led York with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

How It Happened
The Spartans had a runner on third in the top of the first, but failed to get her home. The first four batters all reached base for Lake Forest before the first out was recorded as the Foresters took a 3-0 lead. Elle Meyer managed to get a second out on a lineout to first, but the Foresters found some two-out mojo and tacked on three more runs before the inning concluded.

York left runners stranded in the second, third and fourth innings, before eventually getting one home in the fifth. Emma Wade drew a one-out walk and was replaced by pinch runner Kiley Barnhart. Barnhart advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third on an Emily Netterville infield single. Taylor Lindsay drove in Barnhart with a ground out to third for York's lone run of the night.

The Foresters got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and had an opportunity to do further damage as they attempted to steal home with the bases loaded, but Daphney Adams snuffed out the steal attempt for the final out of the inning.

Lake Forest put another run on the board in the sixth and threatened for more, but had to leave three runners stranded when the skies opened up.

Up Next
The Spartans return to play on Wednesday with games against Mount Union and Cornell.
