#15 Lynchburg Pulls Away Late to Take Game One From Spartans

The Hornets scored seven runs in the seventh to run away with a 15-4 victory to open the three-game series

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The York baseball dropped game one, 15-4, of their three-game set at No. 15 Lynchburg on Friday afternoon.

York had chances a plenty in the early frames, but left nine runners stranded through the first six innings and stranded 12 total for the game.

Austin Denlinger led the Spartans with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, followed by Jack Barry, Joe Capobianco, Connor Pickle and Brian Jakubek who all had multi-hit games.

How It Happened
The Hornets pounced on the Spartans in the first after York left three runners stranded in the top of the frame. Lynchburg put three runs on the board on two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch as five of their first six batters reached base.

York took its first and only lead of the game with a four-run third inning. Jack Barry and Joe Capobianco started the inning with consecutive singles, followed by a walk by Brendan Martin to set the table for Connor Pickle who roped a two-run double to right field. After a Joey Ricciardi sac bunt to advance Martin and Pickle, Brian Jakubek singled to center to score Martin. Pickle later scored on a passed ball, but the Hornets retired the next two batters in order to get out of the inning.

The Spartan lead was short-lived as Lynchburg responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. PJ Alvanos accounted for all three of those runs with a three-run homer.

Zach Reed held the Hornets hitless through the fourth and fifth as he finished as he was replaced for the start of the sixth inning. Lynchburg tacked on two more runs in the sixth on just one hit and a Spartan error.

Things went sideways for the Spartans in the seventh as the Hornets scored seven runs on five hits to take a commanding 15-4 lead and put the game out of reach.

After put together a solid third inning offensive performance, the Spartans only managed to scatter four hits in the final six innings.
