Spartan Win Streak Snapped in Doubleheader Split at Arcadia

Harhigh's three-run homer lifted Spartans to victory in game one

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The York softball team saw their win streak end at six with a doubleheader split at Arcadia Tuesday afternoon in the inaugural meeting of the two teams.

Alyssa Harhigh lifted the Spartans to a 9-8 victory in game one with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh as the Spartans captured their six-straight victory. The Knights responded in a big way in game two by winning 13-1 in five innings, aided heavily by a 10-run fourth inning.

GAME 1
Pitchers of Record

WP: Taylor Lindsay (6-0)
LP:Brenna Dolan (5-2)

How It Happened
A pair of Arcadia defensive miscues aided the Spartans in the first inning as Emma Keller reached from her lead-off spot on catcher's interference and Natalie Decena followed by reaching on an error. Daphney Adams made the errors hurt as she drove in Keller and Decena with a single to left.

The Knights made up for their defensive woes by scoring three runs on five hits to take a 3-2 lead at the end of one inning of play. Megan Sooy extended the lead to 4-2 with a solo home run in the third.

The Spartans climbed right back in the game with a three-run fifth-inning rally. The first four Spartan batters reached base safely with Adams coming through again with an RBI single to score Decena, followed by Emma Wade's single which drove in Alyssa Harhigh. Then, Taylor Coon worked a two-out walk with the bases loaded for York's third and final run of the inning as the Spartans moved ahead, 5-4.

York's lead was short-lived as Arcadia scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, but Adams came through once more with a one-run single in the top of the six to put York back in front, 6-5.

Arcadia jumped back in front, 8-6, as Sooy went deep again, this time with a three-run shot to left. York responded in the top of the seventh with a three-run home run of their own courtesy of Harhigh to regain the lead, 9-8.

Taylor Lindsay preserved the win with a bases-loaded strikeout to end the game.

How It Happened
Arcadia's Juliana Presto tossed three-straight shutout innings while her offense broke open the game with three runs on five hits in the third.

York cut the deficit to two with a run in the fourth inning. With two outs recorded, Morgan Sauers kept the inning alive with an infield single. Taylor Coon drove in Sauers from first with a double to left to get York on the board.

Suddenly after getting on the board, the Spartans found themselves on the wrong end of a lop-sided game. The Knights hung 10 runs on the board in the fourth on eight hits and took advantage of four Spartan errors. 13-consecutive Arcadia batters reached base safely before an inning-ending strikeout by Hannah Vogt was recorded.

The Knights went on to hold the Spartans scoreless in the top of the fifth to clinch game two on run rule.

Up Next
The Spartans return to Commonwealth play with a Saturday road trip to Albright.

Notes
York's six-game win streak was the longest win streak since the Spartan won seven-straight midway through the 2018 season … Daphney Adams led the team with a 4-for-8 effort at the plate with a team-leading four RBI … Natalie Decena paced the team with three runs scored on the day while going 3-for-8 at the plate.
