How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the first as
Austin Denlinger singled to left. He stole second and scored when
Jack Barr singled to right.
Joe Capobianco put runners at first and second after he was hit by a pitch. However, LVC starter Tommy Moore got a strikeout and a line out to end the inning without any further damage.
• The Spartans got a pair of runners on again in the third as Denlinger singled and Capobianco walked with one out. Again, Moore got out of the jam with a line out to second and a foul out to first. York stranded five runners through the first three innings.
• The Dutchmen tied the game three batters into the fourth as a walk and a Spartan error put runners at first and second. Connor Smith doubled to right center to tie the game at one. After a strikeout, Ryan Murphy plated the second run with an RBI ground out to second.
• LVC exploded for four runs in the fifth aided by a walk, a hit batter and an error. The first run scored on an error which should have been the third out of the inning. The Dutchmen made that miscue hurt as they scored three more runs in the inning. Shane Stossel put the dagger in deeper with a two-run double to center to put the Dutchmen up 6-1.
• That would be more than enough for Moore as he locked down the Spartan offense over the rest of his outing. He retired eight straight Spartans in the middle of the game. He didn't allow a hit over the final four innings of his appearance as he struck out seven and walked one. He did hit three Spartans during the game.
• LVC closed out the win with single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to provide for the final 8-1 margin.
• Dutchmen reliever Michael Williams held the Spartans in check over the final two innings as he allowed a pair of harmless singles.
