YORK, PA – The York College softball squad had a strong day on a cool Tuesday afternoon in York as the Spartans swept #21 Gettysburg College at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans won game one 5-3 and then completed the sweep with 9-1 five inning win in the night cap.
The Spartans have won three straight and five of their last six.

How it Happened
• After a scoreless first two innings, the Bullets got on the board first as Gettysburg's ninth hitter, Lauren O'Leary, blasted a solo homer to dead center to give the guests the early lead. The Spartans responded in the bottom of the second as Taylor Lindsay reached on a fielder's choice. She came around to score when Elle Meyer tripled to center, tying the game at one.
• The Spartans broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. Emma Keller started the uprising with a lead off single. Lindsay then singled up the middle. Taylor Coon laid down a sacrifice bunt to move pinch runners Kiley Barnhart and Jess Cusumano up 60 feet each. Meyer loaded the bases with an infield single. Natalie Decena singled to center, scoring Barnhart and Cusumano for the 3-1 Spartan lead. Meyer and Decena each moved up a base after a Bullet error on the play. Alyssa Harhigh drove in Meyer with sacrifice fly and Decena scored on another Bullet error for the 5-1 lead.
• The Spartan defense got a little shaky in the top of the seventh as a pair of errors led to two Bullet runs before the Green and White closed out the game for the 5-3 win.

How it Happened
• The Spartans jumped all over the Bullets in the bottom of the first. Elle Meyer walked, stole second and scored when Alyssa Harhigh tripled to left center. After a pop up, Emma Wade walked and stole second to put Spartans at second and third. Emma Keller doubled to center, scoring Harhigh and Wade as York led 3-0. Keller stole third and then scored on a throwing error.
• York added to the lead in the second thanks to another RBI from Harhigh while a passed ball allowed a second Spartan run to score as it was 6-0 Spartans.
• The Bullets broke up the shutout in the fifth on a Jess Campana RBI single.
• The Spartans closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth as Keller singled to open the inning. Jess Cusumano ran for Keller and stole second. After a strikeout and a ground out, Taylor Coon doubled to right center to score Cusumano. Meyer walked and then Natalie Decena ended the game with a triple off the right field wall to send the Spartan fans home happy.
