How It Happened
• The game was quiet through the first two and a half innings before the Pioneers got on the board. Elijah Barinas singled, stole second and then scored on a Devin Mersmann single to center for the 1-0 Alfred State lead.
• York tied the game at one in the fifth.
Garrett Kile laid down a bunt single to kick start the rally. After
Brian Jakubek lined out to right, Kile moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a
Robby Elzinga single to left.
• The Spartans took the lead in the sixth as
Andrew Santarpia drilled a triple to right center with two outs. He came strolling home when
Davaughn Reid singled up the middle, giving York the 2-1 advantage.
• The Pioneers rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth Matteo Avallone singled up the middle with two outs. Brody Burdett followed with a single to move Avallone to second. Owen Lansing then singled home Avallone, tying the game at two.
• The Spartans captured the win in the top of the ninth as Kile drew a lead off walk. York tried to unsuccessfully bunt him to second and that was followed by a foul out as it looked like the uprising wasn't going to happen. Up stepped
Austin Denlinger who promptly tripled down the right field line, scoring Kile and giving York the 3-2 lead. Denlinger would trot home a few pitches later as
Jack Barry doubled to left center to give York the 4-2 lead.
• The Spartans made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth as they had a pair of errors with two outs that brought the winning run to the plate. Fortunately for York,
Brandon Purdy got a strikeout to end the game, giving York their seventh win of the year.
